Dear EBTech Hosting customer:

As you know, EBTech is closing its doors, but has reached out to TekSavvy to help ensure our hosting customers’ sites do not go offline. EBTech and TekSavvy have been working diligently to replicate the existing EBTech hosting environment in TekSavvy’s data centre.

Over the next week, unless you indicated to EBTech that you wished to go elsewhere, TekSavvy and EBTech will begin repointing DNS entries to point to the new TekSavvy servers. Your Web site will be grandfathered in this new environment, and migrated to TekSavvy as is. There will be no noticeable change to content or design.

Your package and service information will be migrated to TekSavvy in a way that matches the packages offered by TekSavvy as closely as possible:

Following the migration, TekSavvy will be your new service provider. TekSavvy has no long-term contracts and no long-term payment requirements. They let their service stand for itself. If you are unsatisfied, they do not force cancellation penalties on you. That is why we asked them to help ensure continuity. Your hosting services will be subject to the following TekSavvy policies:

If you do not agree to these policies, please contact TekSavvy’s Business Services department at 1-877-313-1575 or biz@teksavvy.com to be removed from the migration queue. Otherwise, TekSavvy will soon reach out with further instructions, and to gather contact and billing information to transfer payment over to them. We have provided them with your contact information in order to do so. If you reached out to EBTech and made arrangements to migrate your Web site elsewhere, TekSavvy’s Business Services department will gladly have you put back into the migration queue.

TekSavvy will work with you to help maintain your existing sites. For any new sites or domains you wish to create, TekSavvy will work with you to create these in TekSavvy’s hosting environment. Please have a look at TekSavvy’s existing hosting portfolio which can be found at http://www.teksavvy.com/en/business/services/hosting. TekSavvy has an abundance of self-service and self-provisioning tools for creating dynamic, modern-looking Web sites with ease.

Over the coming months, TekSavvy will again reach out to you to discuss migration into the TekSavvy hosting environment, away from the environment set up to mirror EBTech’s, so that you can take advantage of these features for your existing content. We thank you for your business and assure you that your site is being taken care of during this transition phase.

A little background on TekSavvy’s hosting facility:

  • Servers are hosted solely in a Canadian-owned and -controlled data centre located in Ontario (Chatham). It has secured building access, and highly restricts physical access to the server rooms containing the equipment.

  • The data centre is protected by redundant HVAC systems. It is generator-fed to ensure there are no environmental events which can lead to service disruption.

  • Internet access is provided over two diverse paths from the data centre back to TekSavvy’s advanced network core in Toronto.

  • The Web sites are protected by clustered firewalls to protect valuable data.

  • TekSavvy’s business call centre is located in Chatham and in Gatineau, Quebec. TekSavvy does not outsource these services. You will be speaking with TekSavvy employees, trained to handle your business needs.

  1. Physical office at 559 Exmouth St. will be completely closed as of July 31, 2015 at 3pm (tech support and phone service as well)

  2. All internet, email, web pages, domains will remain active until August 14, 2015 at noon

  3. Call Tek Savvy to switch your account ASAP as transition can take up to a week and their install times are booking up fast

  4. If Tek Savvy asks you to get EBTech to cancel, email cancelmyaccount@ebtech.net with your details (will be active until August 14, 2015)

  5. If you wish to forward your EBTech email, come into the office prior to Friday at 3pm, if you don’t make it in before that, check ebtech.net/emailforward to sign up BEFORE August 14 at noon

  6. If you are a web hosting or domain client and wish for us to transfer your account directly to Tek Savvy with no further action from you, click here to fill out the form.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Hosting your website with TekSavvy won't result in your website going down. Please contact our office if you want to continue working with the team that originally built your website.

  7. If you are a web hosting or domain client and wish to transfer your site or domain email to someone other than Tek Savvy, contact webtransfer@ebtech.net ASAP, this email will remain active up to August 14, 2015 at noon, but responses will be delayed after Friday the 31st, 2015

  8. We are not responsible for any accounts, mail, web sites or domains after August 14, 2015

Notice to all of our Rural Wireless Internet Customers:

We are currently in the process of transitioning our wireless services to ensure that they continue to operate beyond August 14, 2015.

In the short term, you will continue to receive wireless service as you currently do. When TekSavvy has been able to start integration into their network, we will inform you via this website about what is required of you.

Do not contact TekSavvy for Wireless Service at this point - they will not be able to assist you yet. We will continue to monitor and maintain the wireless network during this transition.

TekSavvy will be working to expand and upgrade the wireless network and we are certain that you will be impressed with their professionalism, ability and support.

With EBTech's 21st anniversary just around the corner, it is with mixed emotions that we announce that EBTech.net will be leaving the Internet business.

Having started as a computer repair and services company in the summer of 1994 and only a few short months later, bringing commercial internet service to Sarnia-Lambton, we've seen and have been a part of some amazing things that we will not soon forget. With the ever changing Internet space and marketplace, being a small, community-based, ISP is no longer sustainable.

Though we will no longer be providing Internet services and will eventually exit the market completely, we are positioning our customers to be well taken care of and to continue to enjoy real service from a real independent internet service company that truly cares about their clients. We are working with TekSavvy to help transition our clients to their world-class network. In addition to helping our customers, it will help TekSavvy to increase their footprint in the Sarnia-Lambton community and expand their service offerings to you, our valued customers, and to the community as a whole.

EBTech has always been about providing real customer service and to offering the best we can at an affordable rate. When that is no longer a possibility, it is, we believe, our responsibility to pass the torch and assist our customers in getting the service they deserve from those who can truly provide it. After nearly 21 years of servicing Sarnia, as of July 31, 2015 we will no longer be providing Internet access services. To support our valued customers with this transition and to limit interruptions where possible, we have engaged another great independent Internet service provider – TekSavvy – to assist.

As a customer of our DSL-based Internet access service, you can take advantage of TekSavvy’s awesome rates, friendly service and 24-hour technical support. For EBTech customers, TekSavvy will waive the activation fee (usually $50) if you sign up for TekSavvy’s High Speed DSL 6 before September 30, 2015. The package comes in three flavours: 150 GB ($29.99/month) or 400 GB of usage ($32.99/month), with overage at 25 cents/GB; or unlimited ($39.99/month).

You should be able to use your current DSL modem on TekSavvy’s High Speed DSL 6 service. The process will be fairly simple and should result in minimal service interruption to most clients.

  • Call TekSavvy at 1-877-779-1575 or visit http://www.teksavvy.com/ to order High Speed DSL 6 and use offer code ebtech.

  • TekSavvy will walk you through their sign-up process and waive the setup fee.

  • Once they start the process to move you over, you will receive your TekSavvy account information, which will include DSL login information.

  • Update your modem with the new DSL login information provided to you. If you need assistance to update your modem, TekSavvy Technical Support would be pleased to help.

We encourage you to get the process started as soon as possible as service with EBTech will terminate at noon on August 14, 2015.

If you use your EBTech.net email address, we can forward your EBTech.net email to your new email address for $20/year. (Instructions to follow)

To support our valued customers with this transition and to limit interruptions where possible, we have engaged another great independent Internet service provider – TekSavvy – to assist.

During the coming days, our fixed wireless service will be assumed by TekSavvy (a local Chatham company) and join their popular and ever growing Sky Fi service. The transition will result in little interruption and only minor changes to the service you receive. We will update you as the process moves forward and inform you of any potential outages or changes required of you.

The full integration of our service into TekSavvy's leading Sky Fi service will take some time but, rest assured, will result in an increase in service and reliability in the coming months. TekSavvy's rates are competitive and their level of support and service is world-class and available 24/7. We are confident you are in good hands with TekSavvy.

To support our valued customers with this transition and to limit interruptions where possible, we have engaged another great independent Internet service provider – TekSavvy – to assist.

Over the coming days, we will be working with TekSavvy to transfer websites hosted with us to their hosting service. For most customers, this will be a fairly seamless transition and will result in no noticeable disruption of service. Web sites will be moved to TekSavvy's servers on their extremely fast and redundant network which will provide increased reliability and greater speeds.

As the process moves forward, we will update you on what is required of you (changing of Payee, setting passwords, etc.) and we will keep you informed, via this email (and website) of any potential interruptions.

With EBTech leaving the internet business we will be terminating our services by August 14, 2015. As a result of this pending change, emails to @ebtech.net email address will cease to be delivered. To continue to receive email addressed to @ebtech.net, we are offering to forward emails to new email addresses from now until July 1, 2016 for a fee of $20 (plus HST).

In addition, if you currently are storing email on the EBTech.net mail servers, we recommend that you retrieve any email that you wish to keep because with the termination of service on August 14, 2015, access to that email will no longer be possible.
